Apple TV 4 Now Available at Physical Retailers

Apple has confirmed our earlier report that they will be releasing the new Apple TV from today at their retail stores across the globe. Other retail locations, like Best Buy and Target who recently made the Apple Watch available at their stores and on their websites, have made the new Apple TV available in limited stock for pickup.

Apple has sent an email to some customers promoting the 4th-generation Apple TV as ‘the future of television,’ highlighting apps, Siri remote and the new user interface. Apple’s email contains links to both the online store and retail store-finder.

OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 Public Beta Seeded

Just two days after releasing the build to developers, Apple has seeded public beta testers with the first beta of OS X El Capitan 10.11.2.

The new beta is available through the Mac App Store as an over the air update for beta testers with their Mac enrolled in the program. Those wishing to join the program can sign up on Apple's beta testing website.

Mac Rumors has shared details about the new beta and what to expect when the commercial release comes out:

It's not yet known what improvements the latest update to OS X El Capitan will bring, but it's likely to include bug fixes, security enhancements, and performance improvements to address issues discovered since the release of OS X 10.11.1. Apple's release notes for the first developer beta asked testers to focus on Graphics, Wi-Fi, Calendar, USB, Notes, Photos, and Spotlight.

iOS 9.2 Public Beta Seeded

Just two days after seeding the build to developers, Apple has released the first beta of iOS 9.2 to all public beta testers.

The update comes as an over the air software download for tester's iOS devices enrolled in the program. Users can download the new build by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Mac Rumors has explained what you can find in the new beta:

iOS 9.2 fixes several bugs in the operating system and it includes other under-the-hood enhancements. According to the release notes for the first beta, the Safari View Controller (the view of Safari you see within apps) is being updated with support for third-party Action Extensions that will let it more closely mirror the Safari app. It also includes options to reload content and request a desktop site, as in Safari

Apple TV 4 Reportedly to Launch on Friday

After Apple begun accepting preorders for the new Apple TV on Monday, rumors from sites such as 9to5Mac and MacRumors have begun suggesting that the new multimedia set top box will launch on Friday.

Apple retail locations are set to receive shipments at the end of the week, with Apple Stores being reconfigured overnight on Thursday to focus on promoting the new Apple TV.

Coincidence or not, Friday is also the date the first customers who selected one day shipping at checkout are reportedly going to receive their new Apple TVs in the mail.

Some Apple TVs have already begun preparing for shipment and will be shipping out very soon.

Best Buy is also accepting pre-orders for the new Apple TV, but isn't allowing for in-store pickup until November 4. The electronics retailer is carrying the new Apple TV in 32GB and 64GB models for $149.99 and $199.99 respectively alongside an optional two-year AppleCare Protection Plan for $29.

The new Apple TV is available in 32 and 64GB configurations, with prices at $149 and $199, respectively. The device includes an A8 processor, a touch-based remote control that doubles as a game controller, a full App Store, universal search capabilities, and Siri integration.

Apple Seeds Developers with iOS 9.2, OS X 10.11.2 Betas

Just a week after releasing iOS 9.1 and OS X 10.11.1, Apple has officially seeded developers with the first builds of iOS 9.2 and OS X El Capitan 10.11.2.

The new iOS beta notably so far includes notable bug fixes and changes to how third-party apps handle embedded Safari views:

This update is available to all registered developers through the Developer Center on Apple's website.

Alongside today's new iOS beta, Apple has also seeded developers with a new build of OS X El Capitan, version 10.11.2, carrying a build number of 15C27e. The new beta is said to focus mainly on graphics, Mail, Wi-Fi, Calendar, USB, Notes, Photos, and Spotlight improvements.

Registered developers can find the OS update in the Developer Center. Updating from a previous OS X version requires downloading the OS X Software Update Seed Configuration Utility, then checking for the update in the Mac App Store’s Updates section. The update is 1.34 GB. We’ll report any notable differences between it and OS X 10.11.

Siri Won't Answer Some Questions if You're Not Subscribed to Apple Music

The co-creator of Pandora, Tom Conrad, recently discovered that if you ask Siri about the music charts, she won't respond unless you're on Apple Music. And what better person to discover this than the co-creator of one of Apple's biggest competitors?

When Conrad tried to ask Siri what is the most popular song in the US today, she responded with a lock on her mouth she threw away the key to.

Business Insider report that other non-subscribers get the same result.

What next? Siri refusing to answer questions about smartphones unless you own the latest iPhone?

You Can Now Stalk Your Friends on iCloud.com

Yesterday, Apple updated iCloud.com with a new app called Find My Friends, a piece of software found on iOS. In the app, you can locate where your contacts are in real time as long as they allow people to locate them via downloading the app themselves on their devices.

Logging into the Find My Friends on iCloud.com also brings up a map of your friends’ last locations, pretty much just like the iOS version. It also allows users to set turn off location sharing and choose which device to share your location from.

Apple Now Taking Submissions of tvOS Apps From Devs Ahead of Launch of Apple TV 4 Next Week

Apple has sent out emails to developers notifying them that they are now accepting submissions of apps for tvOS using the GM seeds of tvOS and Xcode 7.1 due to the new Apple TV becoming available next week.

Although several thousand developer kits are out in the wild, the App Store app is yet to appear for these users. It may come online over-the-air and just ‘appear’ like Apple TV channels do, or there may be a small software update in the next few days to add the application.

Like with watchOS, Apple is once again warning developers that a small group of people will be able to test out their apps ahead of public Apple TV launch. This is likely referring to review units which Apple has likely already sent out to members of the press. Preorders for the new Apple TV begin Monday.

Apple Updates iOS, OS X, watchOS, tvOS, and iTunes

Apple has released new updates for it's software today. The first being iOS 9.1, the first major update for the OS found on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The new update brings new emojis like the taco, unicorn, and middle finger alongside support for Unicode 7.0 and 8.0. Apple has also tweaked its three planetary wallpapers and developer support for Live Photos as well as improvements to the capture experience.

As for the Messages app, you can now toggle contact photos on or off on iPhone 6 and later. Go to Settings > Messages > Show Contact Photos to change this setting, which is on by default.

As expected, Apple’s News app is now available for use in the UK.

You can download iOS 9.1 within the Software Updates section in Settings. You can view all the updates and changes made to iOS in the release notes below.

Apple has also released OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 to the public. This update introduces a collection of new emojis also found in IOS 9.1 and fixes many bugs, including problems with Microsoft Office, Mail, and Audio Unit plugins.

You can download the update for OS X by going to the Updates tab in the Mac App Store.

Apple has also released an update for the Apple Watch, watchOS 2.0.1. Alongside the new emojis found in the other OS updates listed, this update for the company's wearable comes with a whole slew of updates. Here's a rundown:

Resolves an issue that prevented a managed iPhone from syncing iOS Calendar events to Apple Watch
Addresses an issue that could prevent location information from properly updating
Fixes an issue that could cause Digital Touch to send from an email address instead of a phone number
Addresses an issue that could cause instability when using a Live Photo as a watch face.
Resolves an issue that allows the sensors to stay on indefinitely when using Siri to measure heart rate.

Apple has also seeded developers with the GM build of tvOS, the new operating system which will be featured on the new Apple TV scheduled for release on October 26. Not too much has changed in this build, but if there are changes noticed by anyone, we'll let you know.

Finally, Apple has updated iTunes to 12.3.1. This is a minor update, with the release notes only stating that this update comes with overall stability and security enhancements.

Apple TV Will Be Available on October 26

Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed last night at the WSJDLive conference that the new Apple TV will begin to ship starting next week. The company will be taking orders starting Monday, October 26 with the device shipping at the end of the week.

The new Apple TV, which Cook also said is the "foundation" for a new type of TV experience, features an A8 processor and either 32 or 64 GB of storage. It also has support for a full App Store, which Apple says will help "modernize" the "linear TV" experience that most consumers are familiar with. The new Apple TV also comes with the brand new Siri Remote, which allows users to use Siri to easily sort and find their favorite TV shows and movies.

The new fourth-generation Apple TV will be available for $149 with 32 GB of storage and $199 with 64 GB of storage.
